Local attractions include art galleries and museums, gardens, aquariums and bird sanctuaries, and exhibition halls displaying circus artifacts and classic cars.

Several live theater venues offer programs ranging from stand-up comedy to classic dramas, musicals, and cutting-edge performances. There is a lively local music scene presenting a variety of musical genres any night of the week.

Tampa and Orlando are both an easy day-trip, with renowned museums and famous adventure entertainment parks.

Sarasota also known as Florida Cultural Coast includes the Ringling Museum of arts, the Circus Museum, the Asolo Theater, the Opera House, the Florida Studio Theaters, and the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall etc. Sarasota County launched an arts website, http://www.visitsarasotaarts.org/ , specifically designed with the cultural traveler in mind.

 

Things To Do

Swim, jog, walk, relax, fish, and play – right outside the House of the Sun on Crescent Beach. Up the key just a little bit is world-famous Siesta Public Beach, with a playground, volleyball and tennis courts, picnic areas and concession stands. Just south of Crescent Beach is Point of Rocks, a popular spot for snorkeling and diving.

You’ll find a wealth of arts, cultural and sports opportunities nearby to help you enjoy your stay at House of the Sun. Rent a Jet Ski, boat or kayak, or schedule a parasail flight.

Golf Courses

If golf is your game, the only problem you’ll have is choosing which great local course to play first! The area offers plenty of opportunities for every type of golfer, including 9- and 18-hole courses, from relaxed and easy to awesome and challenging.

Want to get back your swing? Spend a bit of time at one of the local driving ranges. Is the family with you on vacation? Take them to one of the area’s miniature golf courses – and practice your putting skills!

Any course in the Sarasota-Bradenton area is an easy drive from House of the Sun.

 

Shopping

Shoppers – Lots of opportunities here! You can shop nearby for anything you need for your stay at the beach.

House of the Sun is located across the street from Crescent Beach shopping area, where you’ll find restaurants, boutique shops, a post office, pharmacy, market, and rental centers.

A short distance north on the key is Siesta Village, with shops carrying unique clothing, beachwear and gifts. Across the bridge, are an abundance of stores in Sarasota. And if you’re up for a drive, Ellenton Outlet Mall is just off I-75, exit 224.

 

Events

Siesta Key hosts a variety of interesting and entertaining events, including annual sand sculpting competitions – for masters and amateurs, arts and crafts shows, beach volleyball and sand soccer tournaments, and Sunday evening drum circles.

Annual events in nearby communities include golf and fishing tournaments, a chalk festival, activities at the Polo Grounds in Lakewood Ranch, and spring training in Bradenton and Fort Myers.

Circus Sarasota and Sailors Circus provide lots of opportunities to enjoy the local circus heritage.

The new rowing facility is attracting national and international competitions.
